Frequently asked questions
How much smaller will the file get?
Files stored without loss gain the most: WAV and FLAC usually shrink 5 to 10 times. If the source is already compressed, it depends on its bitrate — a 320 kbps MP3 will get much lighter, while a 64 kbps voice recording has almost nothing left to squeeze.
Will the sound get worse?
Compression with loss always removes something, but on speech and ordinary headphones the difference is hard to hear. If the file is music, choose the medium compression level — it treats quality more gently.
Can I compress several files at once?

Why are only MP3, M4A and OPUS on the list?
Only these compress with loss, so the quality choice really does shrink the file. MP3 plays everywhere, M4A sounds better at the same size, and OPUS compresses the most. WAV, FLAC and ALAC encode without loss, so the quality choice would change nothing there. If you need one of those, open the audio converter.
